5/25/22 – Oyster Bay Book Signing: “Boat Building and Boat Yards of Long Island”

Please join us at Theodore’s Books in Oyster Bay for a special book signing and discussion with Long Island Traditions’ Executive Director, Nancy Solomon, about her new book “Boat Building and Boat Yards of Long Island: A Tribute to Tradition” published by the History Press. In this book Solomon documents the traditions and places of Long Island’s boat building industry from a contemporary perspective. During this illustrated program Solomon will share the stories she collected from traditional boat builders in the region during the late 1990s to the present day. The book includes builders and boatyards from Long Island’s north shore, south shore and east end. Highlights include Alan Steiger, the Scopinich family, Guinness world record holder Al Grover and Paul Ketcham, along with Coecles Harbor Marina, the Hanff and Knutson boatyards. The book contains personal narratives along with historical and contemporary photographs. The program is FREE. Registration appreciated but not required.
