Please join us at the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport, NY, on December 16, 2021 at 7 pm for a book signing and discussion with Long Island Traditions’ executive director, Nancy Solomon, about her new book – “Boat Builders and Boat Yards of Long Island: A Tribute to Tradition” published by The History Press. In this book Solomon documents the traditions and places of Long Island’s boat building industry from a contemporary perspective. During this illustrated program Solomon will share the stories she collected from traditional boat builders in the region during the late 1990s to the present day. The book includes builders and boatyards from Long Island’s north shore, south shore and east end. Highlights include Alan Steiger, the Scopinich family, Guinness world record holder Al Grover and Paul Ketcham, along with Coecles Harbor Marina, the Hanff and Knutson boatyards. The book contains personal narratives along with historical and contemporary photographs. Take a trip with us on this historical journey!
