Panambi DancersPlease join us for a free performance of Paraguayan dance with Berta Gauto and Panambi Vera at Landmark on Main Street on September 26th at 3 pm. This program is in partnership with Landmark on Main Street and made possible through a Rapid Relief grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Panambi Verá, which means ‘Golden Butterfly’ in the Guaraní language is a Paraguayan dance group. The ensemble also includes a musical duo playing Andean harp and guitar. The beautiful costumes, importing the delicate tela de araña (spider web) lacework from Paraguay is hand sewn by Panambi Verá’s founder Berta Gauto.

Berta Gauto is originally from Asunción, Paraguay and moved to Long Island in 2000. She danced for several years with Raína Potí, a folkloric dance company. Berta saw dancing as a way to introduce the American public to Paraguayan culture while at the same time educating the Paraguayan community’s children about their heritage.

Panambi Verá has an active performance schedule, including appearances at festivals like Manhattan’s Hispanic Heritage parade and annual visits to Boston; they have also performed at the United Nations. They were featured in New York Folklore’s Latino dance initiative and have received recognition from the NY State Council on the Arts.
