Long Island Traditions is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant by The National Park Service’s African American Civil Rights Grant Program to help preserve history related to the African American struggle for equality. The grant is from the Historic Preservation Fund, administered by The National Park Service. The funds are appropriated annually by Congress to support a variety of historic preservation projects to help preserve the nation’s cultural resources. Our project will be a new cell phone tour titled “Breaking Down Barriers: Civil Rights Movement in Long Island” and will examine the lives and stories of Long Islanders, in their own words, during the civil rights movement.
